Scratching wounds

My mother had a fall recently, while i was on respite and cut her head. The wound it self has now virtually fully healed, but she has this tendancy to pick at the scab when I put her to bed. This off course re-opens the wound, and I,m afraid she could succumb to to a serious infection. Furthermore, even when i apply a fresh dressing in no time she has removed the plaster. Is there some way I can stop mother from removing the dressing?

Dear Jethro

I do wish I could help you. Unfortunately I am not in any position to be able to deal with something which really is a medical matter. I know how frustrating this is for you as there was a time when a doctor in A & E wanted to insert a catheter into my husband. I had to jump up and down and make a big fuss as this same doctor had no idea how someonr in Jack's situation would have reacted. I knew for a fact he would simply have pulled it out doing goodness knows what damage in the process.

Maybe you could discuss it with your doctor or ring the social worker to ask for advice. All I say is don't put all the responsibility on yourself but make sure one professional or another is aware of the situation. It helps.

Yours

Jill.
